News from All Saints Saxtead
The 2019 Sunday Remembrance Service took place at All Saints Saxtead with an at-tendance of fourteen peo-ple. The age range was from teenagers to those who remembered personally the events of 1939 to 1946. The eight names of those who died in the two world wars of the twentieth century were reverently spoken and the two minutes silence were observed. with the last post and the reveille being heard from the organist's Ipad. Saxtead's churchyard is a village one, full of country atmosphere. The blend of old and new contributed to a respectful and mean-ingful observance of this very necessary act of remembrance, not just of those from Sax-tead, but of all who have suffered in the cause of right, everywhere. The prayers of resolve that those present would seek for a better future were spoken with sincerity and purpose. Terry Gilder.
Swan song
Dear everyone,
I shall never forget the many happy years I have spent relating what goes on in Saxtead, indeed what matters to Saxtead. From wed-dings to rubbish clearance , from the Church bike ride to Teas on the Green , from the great
events in our lives to all those little activities that make Saxtead what it is.
I leave on a positive note: since the ap-proaches to the Green and the ponds at Little Green were cleared a few years ago, Saxtead is a more welcoming place to live in. Moreover, the number of young people is growing. If the recent young persons' concert in the Church marking the climax of the festival is anything to go by, we are in safe hands. The community spirit as shown by all those involved in Celebrating Saxtead lives on.
It is time not for a new face but for a fresh set of eyes , a younger generation, to take the helm and present our village to the world. Thank you Saxtead, I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Sue Ward
